I'm going to google earth the whole chapel hill area after I eat and see if I can find a dirt circle. Pretty cool to know this dead zone actually had a dirt track once upon a time |

I think for the amount of time it's been closed that the track in Pearl is one of the easiest to find. It almost looks like with a little work it could reopen |

yeah that one is real easy to find. matter of fact terraserver has a picture from 1996 and it kind looked like it had dirt on the track still. |

That could be it. I will ask my dad today. He raced there a few times so he knows where its at. Thats funny if that is it. I have been by there hundreds of times and never knew! |

Talked to my dad last night. He said it was on Decatur Little Rock Rd somewhere on the left. It was owned by a man whose last name was Loper. It was behind the guys house in a bottom. Bleachers where dug in a bank by shovel. Only ran one season though cause ran washed the track away any it never got built back. _________________ William Parker

This racetrack found me while I was looking for it. Turn turn onto Good Hope Road off of Hwy 15 just north of Decatur and follow it until u see Gene Loper Drive which is a dirt road and also the old entrance to the old track and when I was driving on Loper Drive I kept looking for anything that resembled a racetrack and I was actually sittin in turn 1 looking at the back of Mr Lopers house and the track is still there, just alot of sand, the old flagstand is still there and theres a huge bank that has cuts in it for the front straight away grandstands, its pretty neat. I took pictures but got lost off of my old phone. Just remember once going down Gene Loper Drive and when u see the pond on your right start paying attention to your left because you are on the racetrack then
I don't know how to post pics on here so PM me and I can text you an aerial view so u can post it |
