100+ Cars, Thank You all for coming !! The long awaited reopening of this renovated, upgarded track was quite the success last night. Large crowd with many trick or treaters and plenty of fine racing with cars from as far away as Bartlesville Oklahoma and Pocahontas Ark. coming to C.A.M.S. for (re)opening night.
50+ Factory Stocks showed up to race for a first place that with all the added cash was just short of $1700 to win. This was largest amount of Factory Stocks this facility has seen in 20 years. Mitchell Mourot who started inside the 2nd row found his way to the front fairly early in the 30 lap feature and stayed there for rest of the race. Pole sitter Mason Nichols who lost his front place early on had re-grouped and was closing the gap on Mourot at around lap 20 in 2nd place when the front suspension on the #55 broke ending his night and though the #9 of Bart Singleton ran consistent he could not reel in the 1x of Mourot who got the flag for the win.
The Modified show saw many veteran drivers show up to run for the $1750 to win including among others 6M Wendall Wallace, 11 Donnie Barnhart and 8 Randy Weaver. Wallace spun out on lap 18 sending him to the back & though Barnhart at times had the lead he got into lap traffic and faded back to 6th at one point, he moved back up to 4th at the end but it was not enough to get within closing distance of the young guns Ashton Wilkey & Bryce Clark with Wilkey putting on a fine show and leading the pack from roughly lap 20 to the flag for the win and Clark coming across in 2nd barely edging out the 17F of Casey Findley.
The Late Models put on possibly the best show of the night. Kanyan Methvin of Yellville in the #41 and Timothy Culp in the C8 were impressively fast in their heats with shadows of the feature to come later. Chris Sullivan & Central Arkansas Pest Services some weeks ago had made the 'Put the Money where your Mouth is Challenge' offering $500 to any driver (all 3 classes) on the front row who would give up his pole spot, go to the back of the pack and then race their way back to 1st. Timothy Culp in the 8C was the only driver of the night to take up the Challenge and he almost pulled it off !!! From the green Kanyan Methvin had it going on and looked to walk away with it all but around lap 10 he was in an accident which ended his night. At that point heat winner #54 Eckie Harrison had moved up the lead for several laps but his momentum faded and midway thru the 30 laps Russellville's Jon Kirby in the #11 made his way from 6th to 1st and then held it steady all the way to the checkered. But don't forget the 8C Timothy Culp in the $500 to win challenge !! Culp took his place at the back of the 21 car field and by the last 3 laps he had moved thru the field to 2nd place and was beginning to gain on the 11 of Kirby but too soon the 30 laps was over and he missed the $500 bonus by about 3 car lengths and let me say it was super impressive to watch the 8C move all the way thru the field, dude was a rocket Smile
Thank You to everyone for helping to make the opening of C.A.M.S. a large time, see you all in March 2021 !!
