ADAIRSVILLE, GA – A Week 6 Make-Up Race on Friday night and the Week 15 race on Saturday night at North Alabama Speedway in Tuscumbia, AL shook up the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division Weekly Racing Series National point standings. A total of nine races were contested over four night s of racing.

Cole Cameron of Hattiesburg, MS continues to lead the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division National standings with 562 points. Cameron drove the Cameron Motor Company Special to a tenth-place finish on Friday night at Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, MS. Cameron’s point lead has been whittled down to just two points over Steve Russell of Pontotoc, MS.

Russell was the beneficiary of the North Alabama Speedway Week 6 Make Up Race and the Week 15 race. He finished sixth on Friday night, and tenth on Saturday night in the Steele’s Dive Special. That moved Russell up to the second spot in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division National standings with 560 points.

Sid Scarbrough of Florence, MS finished second on Friday night at Hattiesburg Speedway in the Villa South Special. Scarbrough is third in the National standings with 557 points. Separated by just five points, Cameron, Russell and Scarbrough have two more weeks to earn full points before they hit the 14-week mark of their respective seasons.

Drivers racing in Durrence Layne Weekly Racing events compete for both a Track point fund and a National point fund. Drivers compete against drivers racing at Durrence Layne Racing sanctioned tracks across the country using a National points system over a 27-week season that concludes on September 29.

A driver’s best 14 weekly point totals count as their season total. The top ten drivers in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division National point standings will earn a seat at the Durrence Layne Racing Annual Awards Banquet to receive a point fund check worth $10,000 and a trophy.

Braden Mitchell of Russellville, AL drove the Sparks Energy Rocket to his fifth Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division win of the 2019 Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series season in the Week 6 Make-Up Race on Friday night at North Alabama Speedway. He then finished third in the Week 15 race on Saturday night. That moved Mitchell into the fourth spot in the standings with 532 points.

Mitchell also has the highest Weekly Point Average (WPA) among the Top 20 drivers with eight or more weeks of racing at 48.36 out of a possible 50. Jason Jarrell of Hattiesburg, MS is fifth in the Durrence Layne Late Model standings with 526 points and the second highest WPA at 47.82. Jarrell finished fourth on Friday night at Hattiesburg Speedway driving the Jarrell Racing Rocket.

Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS drove the Billy Riels Racing Special to his series-leading sixth Durrence Layne Late Model win of the season on Friday night at Hattiesburg Speedway. Lee is now seventh in the National standings with 521 points and he owns the third highest WPA at 47.36. Mitchell, Jarrell and Lee have three more weeks to earn full points.

Cameron has the fourth highest WPA at 46.83, and Russell has the fifth highest WPA at 46.67. Once drivers reach the 14th week of their respective seasons, they will begin trying to net points by replacing the lowest weekly point total among their best 14 with a higher weekly point total. A driver’s highest point race for the week counts as their point total for that week.
